Tourist seldom find their way to Palauea. If you are looking for privacy, you will find it here. The beach is located just south of the Kea Lani Resort in Wailea. This area of coastline is protected from the wind and makes for great snorkeling in the calmer waters.
When the water is calm, snorkeling is good near the rocky outcroppings at both ends of the beach. The south end is a bit larger and slightly clearer. You can also enjoy boogie boarding when seas are calm. This is usually a pretty good spot for beginners and kids. The sandy bottom entry is sloped gently for swimming and playing.
Note: During storms or large swells the ocean here can become unsafe with rip currents.
To find the beach, take Wailea Alanui Drive towards Makena. After you past the Kea Lani Resort, take a right at the first intersection. Follow the paved road until you reach the dirt road. Take the path down to the beach with is about 100 feet.
