Picturesque golden sandy beach surrounded by majestic emerald mountains.
Hanalei is the largest bay on Kauai and is bordered by a 125-foot-wide golden sandy beach that stretches nearly two miles long. The beach is located between Hanalei River to the east and Waipa River to the west. Three beach parks are located on Hanalei Bay: Black Pot Beach Park, Hanalei Pavilion Beach Park, and Wai'oli Beach Park. Each of the parks have restrooms, showers and parking.
During the summer months the waters of Hanalei Bay are often as calm as a lake making it great for swimming, and sailing. To the delight of surfers, the winter months often bring large waves to the largest bay on Kauai.
Black Pot Beach park is a favorite for local families on the weekend. The large grass lawn fronting the beach at offers shady spots for relaxing and you’ll find many set up tents and barbecues and stay for the weekend enjoying each other’s company. Closer to the pier is a good spot for those learning to swim. The water is calmer and the waves lose their energy. Weather conditions often affect the clarity and safety of the water. Be sure and check with the lifeguards for the most current water conditions.
World champion surfers call Hanalei home. If you are lucky enough to be there on a good day, expect to see some amazing wave riding (from a safe distance).
